Emma Bland Smith

Emma Bland Smith, a librarian and writer based in San Francisco, is the author of ten children’s books. Her first picture book, Journey: Based on the True Story of OR7, the Most Famous Wolf in the West, won Bank Street College’s Cook Prize and Northland College’s SONWA award. Emma specializes in narrative nonfiction about animals, interesting people, and quirky historical events. Coming up, she has picture books about a dog who survived the California wildfires, Claude the white alligator of the California Academy of Sciences, and a fascinating event called the Pig War that took place on an island in Washington State in 1859.
