Making Your School Library a Third Place: Becoming the Heart (and Hangout) of Your School (6-12)
Based on the book The Great Good Place (2000) by Ray Oldenburg, eight characteristics of third places, the "anchors" of community life, (Starbucks being the most oft-cited example) will be presented. Participants will share ideas for implementing these characteristics in their libraries. The presenter will discuss the transformation of Moorpark High School's library from a place that received less than 10 visits a day, to the heart of the campus, where on a typical day more than 300 students come in and out to have breakfast, study, play cards, charge their phones, and even check out books.

Genrefication in Action: How You Can Genrefy for Any Library (K-12)
Genrefication is a great tool to help students more easily navigate your library. Students can find books more easily. Genrefication can also help make collection development and shelving easier. The process seems daunting and a bit scary, but genrefying your library is not one size fits all. It is a spectrum and can look a myriad of different ways to fit different libraries, students, and budgets. This session will go through several options for how to genrefy a library, the pros and cons of each, budgetary constraints, time constraints, etc. to help you build a plan for how you can work towards a genrefied library.
